George E. Runnels, DVM

Animal ClinicDr. Runnels acquired Augusta Animal Emergency on May 1, 2007, but he is not new to the area’s veterinary community. He has been a staff veterinarian at AAE since 2003 and has practiced veterinary emergency medicine since 2000.

He graduated from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. Dr. Runnels’ career in emergency and critical care started in Savannah, GA under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Shealy, DVM, ACVS.

When the opportunity presented itself to assume ownership of AAE, he took it because of his love for the challenges associated with pet emergency and critical care.

Dr. Runnels and his family moved to Aiken in 2003 for their love of the CSRA and to bring his family closer to his wife’s parents who have lived in Aiken, SC for over 30 years.

“The loyalty and dedication of the staff was the biggest reason for me to purchase Augusta Animal Emergency. I have never worked in a hospital with such team spirit and quality of care. This staff has allowed my professional growth to flourish beyond my expectations. I approach every case as if the patient were one of my pets and attempt to treat each and every patient the way I would treat my own animals seeking emergency care.”

Since joining the AAE family in September 2009, she has enjoyed the opportunity to broaden her knowledge and technical skills so vital in the treatment of challenging cases and the fast paced world of emergency medicine. She feels a great sense of satisfaction working in an environment in which the patient is truly the central focus.

In her free time, Stephanie enjoys caring for her many animals on a small farm she shares with her husband and two daughters. Her hobbies have included, a mobile petting farm business that included a list of animals ranging from the typical dog and cat to llamas and pot-bellied pigs. Many of her Saturdays were spent introducing children to the joys of farm life. Watching her daughters grow up with and learn to love animals as much as she does, is very satisfying.
